Thank you to Chis and Angelika for fiftieth anniversary of the Berlin Scottish Country Dance Society, 2024

by Beate and Silke

Ladies and Gentlemen,
My name is Silke and I am a member of the branch here in Berlin.
I am Beate and I am also a member of the Berlin branch.
We would like you to take a rest from all the reels, poussettes, crossing and chasing
And while doing so be so kind as lend us an ear
as we brought some valuable letters along tonight.

a T for time: 50 years ago an enthusiastic couple decided to
share their passion for the Scottish Dancing with other people
by founding the RSCD branch in Berlin.
T is also for twirling every Friday evening in an old, run down
gym of a Berlin school and moving in circles and squares with delight.

an H for hundreds of people they have taught reels or petronella
turns with incredible patience and humour in the past years.
H is also for complete harmony that fills the hall every Friday
when steps crisp and smiles are exchanged.

an A simply for two amazing, admirable people.

N for never giving up correcting the simple steps again and again.
N for never stopping to emphasize it is the right shoulder to cross.

K for keeping this wonderful tradition alive and by doing so making
people forget stress and pain of their daily life.
K is also for impressive kilts and dresses swirling at Burns nights,
Xmas dancing or special workshops - conveying a real Scottish feeling.

an S is for social dancing through the year, shining performances, smiling dancers, sophisticated dancing figures and slainte mhath.

Dear Angelika and dear Chris, with this acrostic, we want to express our deep gratitude for teaching us the secrets of Scottish country dancing and making us one big family.
